The Truth: Who Killed Harlan Thrombey? (major spoilers)
Whodunit?
It all began the night of Harlans birthday party. Harlan made the hard decision to cut off his family from any of his assets. We find out that was the cause of the fight between Harlan and Ransom. Which resulted in Ransom storming out in anger.
It is found out that Ransom said some threatening words to Harlan before the storm out. Overheard by Walt’s son Jacob, see Fig 2.
Well, he wasn’t joking. He ended up turning back around after leaving his grandfathers house to go right back, but in secrecy. He drove into an area that had no cameras, climbed up the side wall to a trick door window, and made his way to Harlans upstairs. He took the two medicines and switched the liquids in the opposite bottles with a needle. He then proceeded to make his way out and away. That night, Marta played her and Harlans nightly game of go and gave him his medicines, whilst talking about his hard decision of cutting his family off.
Marta ended up realizing that she mixed up the two medicines and accidentally gave him 100 mg of Morphine. He was going to be dead in less than ten minutes. Marta went to call 911, but Harlan hung up the phone right away. He realized that he left everything to Marta and if she was caught for it she wouldn’t get any of the assets. But in my personal opinion, I think he also let it happen because he had lived his life, chose his path, and was ready to go. So after he declined help, he came up with a plan for Marta.
He wanted her to pretend to leave, then make her way back and pretend to be him so he would have been seen alive at a certain time that would rule her out. She took the same hidden route that Ransom did, except she had no idea. When she made it to Harlans upstairs, he was sitting on his back couch with a knife to his throat and continued to take his own life. Marta was in absolute shock and instant heartbreak, but she knew what she had to do. For Harlans sake.
Later in the movie, Ransom ends up helping Marta after they all found out she had sole custody of all the assets. She ended up getting an email with a time and place. When Marta made her way there, Fran (Harlans butler) was on the floor dying. In the end, Benoit Blanc revealed what Ransom had done, but Marta had in fact given Harlan the correct doses due to her knowing the weights of the medicines because she is just that good of a human being. It is also revealed that Ransom was being blackmailed by Fran because she saw him tampering with things in the house when he was supposed to be at the funeral.Her cousin works at the coroners office and the report would have shown perfect levels. Which would have ruled out Marta to during the investigation Ransom blew it up.
He also set Marta up to meet Fran overdosing because he met her earlier in the morning after receiving a letter in the mail and stuck Fran with a lethal amount of Morphine. Marta got a call from the doctors about Fran because she called 911 for her and reacted as though the doctor told her good news. Ransom confessed to overdosing Fran, but in fact it was incorrect that there was good news. Fran passed away. That means, Ransom murdered her so he is going to jail. Bye Bye Mr. Tough Guy. Ransom then tried to kill Marta by grabbing one of the knives from Harlans circle of knives. But, instead of grabbing a real on he grabbed what Harlan foreshadowed when talking to Marta before he passed saying Ransom “can’t tell the difference between a stage prop and real one (knife)”.
Benoit Blanc knew Marta was involved in Harlans death since the beginning because she had a speck of blood on her shoes that she wears everyday. But, he knew she didn’t actually do it because she was unable to lie due to a gag reflex she has that makes her hurl. I think that also because of the way the speck in there was no way she was involved and also it was only one spot. It would have been worse if she did it.
In the end, Marta won because of her kind heart and genuine personality.
*Not everything was able to be added because the movie is 2 hours and 10 minutes. That really would have been information overload. It’s a good movie though! I suggest watching it, you won’t regret it!!* Also, have you noticed that I like GIFs? lol.
